It is the mission of the Trumbull County Department of Job & Family Services to provide training and supportive services addressing the needs of a diverse community in a respectful, courteous, and efficient manner. We aid families and individuals in maintaining independence and achieving a better qualify of life. FAMILY SERVICES DIVISION Our employees share the responsibility of providing case management services to unemployed and underemployed families. The staff consists of Eligibility Referral Specialists and Employment Service Counselors. The team works together to explore comprehensive eligibility for a variety of programs with the goal of self-sufficiency of the family. SENIOR/ADULT DIVISION This division was created to address the needs of our senior and disabled population in Trumbull County. The division consists of the County Medical Services/WAIVER unit, the Adult Protective Services unit, the Nursing Home Medicaid unit and two Community Medicaid units. Additional services provided by staff include determination of eligibility for food stamps, Disability Assistance and Title XX contracted services offered to seniors and disabled adults. Adult Protective Services (APS) staff investigates allegations of abuse, neglect or exploitation of Trumbull County residents 60 years of age or older. Through Title XX contracts with local social service agencies, additional services such as information and referral, chore, homemaker, guardianship, nutrition, evaluation and assessment are offered. WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT A wide array of employment and training opportunities are offered through a combination of State and Federal funds. The goal of our workforce development endeavors is to improve, as well as enhance, the productivity and competitiveness of our local workforce. The workforce development services offered by this Agency are available to adults, dislocated workers and low-income youth. Available services include: - Job Club Customers acquire job seeking, survival and retention skills training through group and individual instruction.
- Work Experience Customers acquire and hone work readiness skills at public, non-profit worksites.
- Occupational/Vocational Training The agency contracts with area public and proprietary educational and training institutions to provide training for demand occupations to our clientele. This is done with WIA funding. Our current contract limit for ITA's is $10,000 per year, effective 10/30/07, with a 2 year limit. Contact our local One Stop for more information.
- Remedial Education Enhancement of reading, math, and basic academic skills provided by certified instructors in multiple locations at varying times.
- Continuing Education Area education and training institutions provide continuing education, enhanced skills training, and marketable skills training.
- Customized Training Training targeted for specific employers and industries.
- On-the-Job Training Employers receive a 50% wage reimbursement when hiring individuals referred by the Agency.
- Job Search/Referral Assistance provided in accessing local, state, regional and national employment opportunities.
- Learning, Earning and Parenting (LEAP) Pregnant teens and minor-age parents are provided the opportunity to obtain their high school diploma or GED, then pursue other opportunities.
- Vocational Guidance Labor market information, educational and occupational training information and workforce direction provided to customers.
- Rapid Response Outreach, intake, basic readjustment and initial assessment provided to dislocated workers at the time of a facility closing or mass layoff.
- Basic Readjustment Services designed to assist dislocated workers in effectively coping with layoff.
- Support Services Services designed to assist and support customers while participating in employment and training endeavors. Services offered include books, tuition, tools, materials, uniforms, safety equipment, transportation and day care.
- Assessment/Testing Identification of barriers to employment through the use of valid and reliable instruments.
- Summer Youth Program Provides education, work experience, and work readiness preparation to disadvantaged youth aged 15 to 21 during the summer months.
- Employer Services Referral and screening of applicants, customized training and similar services offered to employers to assist them with hiring activities.
DAY CARE Servicing the needs of our customes requiring day care. Child care services are available for clients in employment or training. Services are offered either free of charge or on a fee for service based on the household's income.
