The Trumbull County Department of Job and Family Services is now soliciting proposals from educational institutions, agencies and organizations interested in developing new and innovative programs for in-school and out-of-school, low income Trumbull County youth. Programs should include outreach, education, training, development, and supportive services for youth at or below 70% of the lower living standard that possess barriers to employment or academic achievement. Completed proposals must be submitted to the Trumbull County One Stop, 280 North Park Avenue, Suite 1, Warren, Ohio44481-1109 no later than July 24, 2009 at 3:00 p.m.

Veterans Job Search Workshop
A special job search workshop for veterans will be held July 21, 22, 23 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Youngstown Air Reserve Station, 3976 King Graves Rd., Vienna, OH. The workshop will include tips on how to find a government job, resume help, and interview tips. Other topics to be addressed include: Overcoming stereotypes (disability, age, record, etc.); Avoiding being screened out, and Setting yourself apart from the competition. Ohio's Attorney General is alerting Ohioans looking for job opportunities about a number of scams that target job seekers. Tap into Stimulus Funds for Training
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act includes significant funds for workforce skills training. Those dollars will fund training and re-training for area workers who have lost their jobs, spouses of those workers or workers who qualify because of low pay. Adults who qualify will receive paid tuition for college or technical school or funding for individual classes to enhance existing skills. Summer Utility Crisis Program
Under the 2009 Summer Crisis Program some households in Ohio may be eligible for a one-time payment of up to $175 toward their electric bill or depending on the area of the state the applicant resides in, assistance with cooling equipment. New Mini-COBRA Enacted
Ohioans employed by a company with fewer than 20 employees who have lost their job could now secure a federal subsidy up to nine months that may reduce by 65% the cost of their state continuation health coverage, often referred to as mini-COBRA. For more information, click here.
Home Affordable Refinance Plan
President Obama has introduced a plan to help homeowners refinance or modify their mortgages.
Refinancing: Many homeowners pay their mortgages on time but are not able to refinance to take advantage of today's lower mortgage rates perhaps due to a decrease in the value of their home. A Home Affordable Refinance will help borrowers whose loans are held by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac refinance into a more affordable mortgage.
Modification: Many homeowners are struggling to make their monthly mortgage payments either because their interest rate has increased or they have less income. A Home Affordable Modification will provide them with mortgage payments they can afford.
Who is eligible? Use the self-assessment tool to see if you are among the homeowners who can benefit from Making Home Affordable. Based on the results, HUD will provide suggestions about what homeowners can do next. To find out if you are eligible, click here.
Prescription Drug Discount Program
The State of Ohio has a prescription drug discount program that can save Ohio residents who qualify as much as 40 percent on their prescriptions. The discount program was created and is run by the State of Ohio to assist residents of any age who do not have prescription drug insurance. Unemployment Benefits Extended
Federal unemployment compensation benefits have been extended. This latest extention will provide for up to 33 weeks of additional federal unemploment compensation for eligible Ohioans. Federal unemployment benefits are paid after an individual's state jobless benefits have been exhausted. The Trumbull County One Stop announces a new workshop.... Managing Your Money and Credit. Create a spending plan to protect your income, save for future goals, and improve your credit / credit score. How to spend less, save more and rebuild/ maintain a good credit score which is important for loan approvals and insurance rates. The workshop will be held monthly. Health Care for Special Needs Kids
The Ohio Department of Job & Family Services started the Children's Buy-In (CBI) program in April to help working parents who are struggling to cover the health care costs of special health needs children. CBI targets working families with income higher than $42,000 per year. It is estimated that about 5,000 children are eligible for the program. For more information click here.
CAA Program Helps Home Buyers
Community Housing Improvement Program (CHIP) administered by the Community Action Agency of Columbiana County can assist credit-worthy low- and moderate-income individuals purchase homes within the city limits of East Liverpool, East Palestine and Salem and in Columbiana County. "Save the Dream: Ohio's Foreclosure Prevention Effort" was designed to help those who are facing the possibility of foreclosure on their home. The program offers suggestions and advice on ways to prevent foreclosure and where to go for help when foreclosure is looming.
